Healthy Review - Ojo Caliente Resort & Spa

This non-food review takes us into the heart of wellness mecca, New Mexico, with a look into one of it's most popular, and natural, health destinations.

If you're looking for a relaxing weekend, weeklong getaway retreat, or even just passing through the Land of Enchantment, this unique refuge is attracting an audience who want to heal, relax, and rejuvenate their mind body and spirit.

Just north of Sante Fe, Ojo Caliente Resort & Spa this oasis of wellness sits quietly off the road under a tower of trees (as tree-y as New Mexico can get anyway). It has anything and everything you could possibly want in a retreat style getaway including a spa, accommodations, farm to table dining, yoga, hiking, and meditation activities.

The spa offers therapeutic massages, facials, soaking, and other restorative therapies, basically everything you'd expect from a luxury spa. However, what makes this wellness resort unique isn't it's offerings or man-made facilities. The great thing about Ojo Caliente, is that it sits on a hot spring bed that's completely natural, offering healing powers straight from the land itself.

Their mineral springs are some of the oldest natural health attractions in the country. If you're someone who believes in the healing powers of the Earth, this is the place for you.

Their sulphur-free mineral waters have flowed from a subterranean volcanic aquifer for thousands of years. These waters are believed to have healing powers as Ojo Caliente is the only hot springs in the world with four different types of mineral water including lithia, iron, soda and arsenic. They have 12 pools on property with these minerals, and a combination thereof, ranging anywhere from 80-106 degrees.

Here's my recommendation for a perfect day spent at Ojo Caliente. Start your morning off with a delicious meal at their onsite locally sourced restaurant, The Artesian. Follow that up with a exercise hike through some of their 1,100 acres, like the hilltop trail to the ancient Posi Pueblo. When you return, cool off for the rest of the day in their multiple mineral spring pools. Make sure you get the info packet letting you know each of the different pools along with their health benefits. Sample them all. Finish your day with a relaxing night in the spa with their 'Essence of Ojo' personalized massage.

And if a private honeymoon or date-week getaway is what you're after, you're in luck. Private pools are available for an extra cost...clothing optional :)
